This is whatDr. Mercè Salvans (medical head of Clinica Salvans, specializing in muscle and joint pain) says, highlighting the benefits of an ergonomic kneeling chair compared to a conventional chair.
The kneeling chair is an ergonomic chair designed to prevent bad sitting posture. It was invented in 1979 by Hans Christian Mengshoel. Later, Norwegian designers such as Oddvin Rykken, Peter Opsvik, and Svein Gusrud developed chair models that followed the same principles.
Unlike a traditional chair, where the seat is made of a horizontal surface parallel to the floor, the seat of the kneeling chair has a certain inclination, providing ergonomic support for the buttocks. In addition, thanks to this inclination of the seat, the user can keep his back as straight as possible in order to prevent any type of back pain, and avoid tensions that often lead to lower back pain or neck pain. Additionally, this posture forces the body to activate its muscles and facilitates, among other things, proper breathing and digestion.
In conventional ergonomic chairs, the back tends to hunch and therefore lose lumbar lordosis. At this point, the back loses its natural posture, and it is easy for tension to appear in the shoulders, neck and lumbar area, as well as general back pain.
Although it has not been scientifically proven, kneeling chairs, such as the ergonomic Variable chair from the Varier brand , are recommended by more and more health and wellness specialists. They argue that the best way to achieve a natural posture when sitting, and to avoid tension, pain and discomfort while sitting, is precisely the use of an ergonomic kneeling chair.
